SUMMARY:GA Coastal Management Program: Brown Bag
DESCRIPTION:GA Coastal Management Program Brown Bag Presentation: Coastal Georgia’s Changing Tree Canopy (2010-2019)\nThursday\, December 12 • 11 AM – 1 PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBrownbag will be held at the Susan Shipman Environmental Learning Center @ GADNR Coastal Regional Headquarters (One Conservation Way\, Brunswick\, GA 31520). \nPlease join the GA Coastal Management Program for a Brownbag Presentation on Coastal Georgia’s Changing Tree Canopy (2010-2019) by Tony Giarrusso with the Georgia Institute of Technology. \nFunded through a Georgia DNR Coastal Incentive Grant\, Mr. Giarrusso derived high-resolution tree canopy cover for 2010 and 2019 using 1-m resolution NAIP imagery for Georgia’s six oceanfront counties. Come learn about how the coastal canopy has changed over time. Mr. Giarrusso will present his research findings and publicly available data\, geospatial tools and resources created as part of this project. In addition to coast-wide information\, this session will focus on findings for Glynn county. \nSpeaker Bio: Tony Giarrusso is a Senior Research Scientist and Associate Director of the Center for Spatial Planning Analytics and Visualization in the College of Design at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta\, Ga. SUMMARY:Brown Bag Lecture: Birds Georgia and Project Safe Flight
DESCRIPTION:GA Coastal Management Program’s Brown Bag Lecture Series: Birds Georgia & Project Safe Flight\nWednesday\, March 27 • 12 – 1 PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSarah Tolve with Birds Georgia will share about Project Safe Flight as part of GA DNR’s Coastal Management Program Brown Bag Lecture Series. \nBirds Georgia is a member-supported\, 501c3 nonprofit organization building places where birds and people thrive. We create bird-friendly communities through conservation\, education\, and community engagement. \nBirds Georgia has been studying collision-related bird deaths through the Project Safe Flight Program since 2015. Project Safe Flight is a conservation effort to further understand the issue of bird/building collisions in the Atlanta metro area as well as in Brunswick and Savannah. \nThe goal of this project is to determine what species are colliding with buildings\, how many birds are affected\, what parts of town are problematic\, and what can be done to make Georgia’s cities more bird friendly. Since fall 2015\, more than 3\,000 birds\, representing 156 different species\, have been collected.
