Issues Investigations: A Conversation About Sapelo

Tuesday, June 24 • 12 PM

The fight to #KeepSapeloGeechee has been a long and convoluted one. Starting with McIntosh County rezoning Hog(g) Hummock Community with no island descendant input, leading to Sapelo coalitions and citizen-led petitions, a special election—that was halted with voting underway, and most recently, a hearing before the Georgia Supreme Court, it’s a lot to keep track of—and to understand.

As we await the Court’s decision this summer, we’re here to help make sense of it all. Join us for an online conversation on June 24 to parse through some of the intricacies of the process so you can be informed allies in this ongoing fight. Sapelo descendent, SICARS board member, and OHM Justice Strategist Jazz Watts will discuss with OHM President/CEO Megan Desrosiers about what has transpired, the legal arguments being considered now, and what may happen next.

We hope to see you on Tuesday, June 24 at noon on Facebook Live for this in-depth discussion. Bring your questions and get a better understanding over your lunch break!
